Granting Procedures

Our grants primarily support projects in the states of Oregon and Hawaii. We focus on Environmental Conservation and/or The Well Being of Children. If your project is involved in one or both of these criteria, you have 501 (c) (3) IRS status, and you have an interest in our application process, we invite you to read on.

How To Apply:

Our application process has three steps:

  1. First Round Review: Go to Download Forms, below right, and dowload the Word Grant Consideration Application. Fill in the requested information and once completed, print and submit as instructed. Your information will be included in the First Round review by our Executive Committee.

  2. Second Round Review: If there is further interest, you will be invited to complete our Grant Application and your request will be included in our Second Round review.
  3. Final Selections: Each Board Member reviews your information two weeks prior to a board meeting. The final decisions are made by all board memebers. The Oregon Grants Board Meeting is held at the end of May and the Hawaii Grants Board Meeting is held at the end of October. We respect your time and effort in preparing your applications. We are committed to keeping you apprised of your standing in a timely manner.

How Often Can I Apply for A Grant?

If you meet the foundation criteria of Environmental Conservation and/or The Well Being of Children, you have 501 (c) (3) IRS status, and are in the states of Oregon or Hawaii we invite you to submit at any time within our deadlines listed below.

If you have received a grant you will be required to sumbit a one year report as stated in our Grant Agreement. This means you can only apply every other year.

Each year the number of grant requests we receive increases making our grant selections ever more difficult. Only a small number of projects are intially invited to participate in our second round; this number is relative to total funds avilable for giving. Please be assured thoughtful consideration is given to each application. If your request is not selected for second round review most likely it is not a reflection on the quality or worthiness of your application. There are many deserving and worthy projects that we will be unable to fund. Due to sheer numbers, we are not able to provide a personal response to "Why didn't our application receive an invitation to the second round?" or "What could we have done better?"

Thank you for your patience and please accept our invitation to try again in the future.

Per category - a larger number of Small Grants are selected for funding than Large Grants. Often, first time requests will be in this category. After organizations have received a Small Grant, the Board has the opportunity of "previous experience" when considering future or larger grants.

Large Grants: Oregon & Hawaii: $26,000 to $75,000

Per category - fewer Large Grants are selected for funding than Small Grants. Generally, the board looks for projects that have a well grounded history, financial stability, good leadership, and a resonable plan of execution for achieving goals.

At the Board Meeting: During the board meeting, discussions on how the foundation and our grant might best support our Grantees success is always our goal.

We have no set "rules" for selection. Each project is given individual and thoughtful consideration. We look to every application to learn something new. Each grant project is a step toward greater understanding and another opportunity to help fulfill The Bill Healy Foundation mission to serve our communities.
