The Chess For Success programs provide opportunities for children to develop strategic thinking, patience and analytical problem solving skills. This after school chess club is now in 41 title 1 elementary and middle schools in Portland. The Chess for Success program, often offered in economically disadvantaged schools, not only helps build self esteem but provides a positive after school activity. Each member receives a chess game to take home to introduce family members to the joys of learning to play chess. Our grant will help support funding to pay teachers and coaches.
